A copilot, never on autopilot

Where we draw the line on AI autonomy in software that touches contracts, identities and money.

A desk with a closed laptop, a cup and a notebook by a sunlit window.

The temptation

AI can now draft a message, fill in a record and propose the next step in seconds. The temptation is to let it act alone. In software that touches contracts, identities and money, that is exactly where a mistake becomes a liability.

Where we draw the line

Autonomy is earned step by step, and some steps are never delegated:

  • The software may draft, summarise and remind without asking.
  • Anything that commits you waits for a person: sending, signing a contract, paying, deleting.
  • Every action is recorded, so what the software proposed can always be reviewed.

Human oversight is a floor, not a setting. It does not move as the software improves; what grows is how much work arrives already prepared. A copilot saves hours. An autopilot, in these domains, spends them later.
